Design
The Indoraptor is mounted on a base that helps the
dinosaur move. The base rests on wheels and the dinosaur’s feet are connected to the wheels causing the dinosaur’s knees to bend, which gives the dinosaur the look as if it is running. The base extends behind the dinosaur, and on that base is where you can store the ATV when playtime is over. The Owen figure that is also included with the toy can be placed on top of the dinosaur. When Owen is on the dinosaur, the ATV can be stored on the base.
With a simple twist of the power pad via the Owen figurine, the dinosaur can then move forward two feet on its own with Owen riding on top. The base also comes with a ramp that the ATV can roll down when it is ready to be chased by the dinosaur. On top of the dinosaur is a power bad that can either pushed and twisted manually, or you can put the Owen figure onto the pad and push down on him or twist him to make the dinosaur move, open his mouth, and have him make noise. The dinosaur cannot be removed from the base. Many parents have found this disappointing.
Making the Indoraptor Move
The Jurassic Park Indoraptor can move one of two ways. You can either push down and twist the power pad that is located on the back of the dinosaur and upon doing that, the Indoraptor will move forward on its own for about two feet or you can place the ATV in front of the dinosaur and manually roll the ATV forward. When the ATV moves, the dinosaur will start to chase after the car causing the dinosaur to keep moving forward until the ATV stops. As long as the ATV is moving, the dinosaur will move.
Once the ATV stops, the dinosaur will continue to move a couple of more feet, which in turn causes the dinosaur to catch up with the ATV and capture it. The ATV is synced with the dinosaur, so whenever the ATV moves so does the Indoraptor. The only way for the dinosaur to really chase the ATV is to move the ATV in a straight line in front of the Indoraptor. The dinosaur and the base do not have the capabilities to move side to side or to turn, so if the ATV moves to the side, the Indoraptor will still move forward in a straight line and not follow the ATV. The is true for when the ATV is behind the Indoraptor. The Indoraptor will sense the ATV and start to move forward even though the ATV is behind.
Batteries Included
The Fisher-Price Imaginext Jurassic World Walking Indoraptor requires a lot of batteries and a lot of power. Some parents have found that the Indoraptor gets played with by their children for an extended period of time due to its hands-free capabilities. The Indoraptor does come with all of its batteries included. The Indoraptor itself requires six AA batteries to operate.
The ATV requires 2 AAA batteries to operate. Some parents have chosen to replace the eight included batteries immediately in order to have the toy function to its full potential. Other parents have used the included batteries to satisfaction until they needed to be replaced. It should be noted that if you remove the batteries from the ATV
vehicle, the Indoraptor will not operate on its own. The ATV must have batteries and be powered for the Indoraptor to chase after it.
Creating and Using Imagination
Imaginext has a reputation for allowing children to use their imaginations to their full potential. Their toys have not only been found to be durable, but they have also been found to take toys to the next level by using the latest in technology to bring toys to life in an attempt to immerse a child in a full play experience. As with all figures and toys that move, the Jurassic World Walking Indoraptor by Fisher-Price allows children the opportunity to
expand and use their imaginations.
Any fan of dinosaurs or the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World movie series will love the Walking Indoraptor because Imaginext gives your child or any fan of the films, the opportunity to recreate scenes from the films because the dinosaur can operate hands-free due to the syncing capabilities with the ATV. As long as your child has enough space to create a straight line for the dinosaur to run, they can imagine they are Owen and have the dinosaur chase them the length of their space as they imagine they are in the Jurassic World movie.
The Base
The Indoraptor is part of the base in which makes it move. Some have found it a disappointment that the dinosaur does not separate from the base to be used independently. In the case of the Walking Indoraptor, the legs and feet are connected to the base in order for the dinosaur to walk. The feet are connected to the wheels. The back of the base is flat and is big enough and designed to hold the ATV. When playtime is over, the ATV is to be stored on top of the back of the base of the dinosaur. There is also a
ramp that is attached to the base so that the ATV can roll off of the base and into play for the Indoraptor to chase the ATV. The floor will fold up and out for the ramp. The ramp can also be placed straight up to lock the ATV in if you choose to operate the dinosaur by pushing down on the power pad on top of the dinosaur.
The Power Pad
The Power Pad on top of the Indoraptor is designed to be pushed by hand or pushed with the Owen figurine that comes included with the toy. As with all Imaginext figurines, the power pad is fit for any figurine from any Imaginext playset. All power pads are universal. Owen can fit onto the pad and when the power pad is twisted, the dinosaur will move on its own for about two feet with Owen riding on its back. When Owen is pushed down or if the pad is independently pushed down, the mouth of the Indoraptor will open and the dinosaur will roar.
The sounds of chomping can also be heard when the dinosaur’s mouth is open adding to the story that can be created when your child is imagining Owen fighting the dinosaur. The sounds that come out of the dinosaur are ones that sound like the Indoraptor is chasing Owen through the jungle, and the dinosaur is chomping down on the trees and brush that are in its way adding to the imagined world and scenarios that are being created by your child’s imagination.
Connecting to Other Playsets
Imaginext creates all of their figurines and all of their power pads the same across all of their playsets. As a result, if you own other Imaginext playsets like Power Rangers, Star Wars, or other Jurassic Park sets, you can swap the figures in and out of the other sets in order to expand on your story. Darth Vader can ride on the Indoraptor, or a Power Ranger can be placed into the ATV, either way, the possibilities are endless.
The ability to have stories cross over each other and characters mix with each other is a great way for children to know the stories from the
TV shows and movies that the characters come from, and be able to comprehend the storylines in order to mix them together with characters that would not normally mix together because the genres are so different. This type of mixing together of stories and characters gives a new depth to what your child can do and create as they will have more characters to play with and more storylines to build from.
Collectors Item
Any fan of toy collecting will definitely want to have the Fisher-Price Imaginext Jurassic World Walking Indoraptor. The toy is already unique in that it can sync with another toy and move on its own, and that feature alone makes it a collector’s item. Out of the box, it is a great item to be put on display for all to see, or it can also be stored safely in its original box. Fisher-Price has manufactured several Jurassic World playsets, and since the
figurines are interchangeable, all the sets can be used together in one large display that depicts several scenes from the Jurassic World movie franchise.
Age Range
The Fisher-Price Imaginext Jurassic World Walking Indoraptor is recommended for children ages 3 through 8. Children younger than three-years-old will not have the dexterity or motor skills necessary to move the ATV in the proper way so that the dinosaur will follow the ATV as it chases it across the floor. There also needs to be a certain dexterity to place the Owen figurine into the power pad and manipulate it so that it can manipulate the dinosaur. Children over the age of
eight-years-old may not be fully entertained with the basic functions of the dinosaur as they may need bigger and better stimulation to keep interested. As a child grows so does his or her imagination and the Imaginext Jurassic World Walking Indoraptor may not have enough of a “wow” factor for your child over eight-years-old.
Price
The Fisher-Price Imaginext Jurassic World Walking Indoraptor is a bit more expensive than your regular toy. Still, the price of this kind seems reasonable for a toy that has the kind of functions and capabilities as the Indoraptor. Not only does it give children the possibility of endless hours of play with a dinosaur that moves on its own, but it exercises a child’s ability to create
stories and create a world around the toys. When paired with other Imaginext toys, there are more and more avenues of play that can be explored by your child.
Conclusion
The Fisher-Price Imaginext Jurassic World Walking Indoraptor is a great purchase for anyone who
loves to collect toys, especially movie memorabilia, or any child who has a love for dinosaurs. The hands-free movement of the toy including the figurine and the synced ATV make for a great toy. The advanced technology of the toy really makes it easy for a child to use their imagination in new and different ways. Imaginext has a reputation for creating toys that really give kids the tools they need to expand their minds, and the Fisher-Price Imaginext Jurassic World Walking Indoraptor is no exception. This is a must-have toy for any child with a wild imagination.
