How it works

Stokke has long been known for providing baby furniture like stokke tripp trapp high chair, that is durable and handcrafted, which happens to come with a hefty price tag.  For over five decades, parents have continued to rely on Stokke because the c ompany’s furniture is of high-quality.

One of the most sought after pieces of furniture is the Sleepi Crib, which has a design that is all its own that has been appealing to many parents, however, for as much praise as the crib gets it also has caused a few concerns for some parents. Although the crib is unique in design and can last your child up to ten years because of its ability to convert, the Stokke Sleepi Crib should be considered by all parents, but it must be considered if it’s worth it for you to buy.

Design

Design

What many parents love about the Stokke Sleepi Crib is that it is oval-shaped. In having that oval shape, children are less likely to get stuck in the corners as they would in a traditional rectangular shaped crib. The oval shape also creates a nest-like feeling for your child that many belief creates a sense of nesting and comfort for your baby where the space of the crib becomes their own personal space to explore and sleep in.

The oval shape also allows for the baby crib to easily fit through any doorway in the home, therefore, you can move the crib and put the crib anywhere you see fit in your home by simply bringing it from room to room. It is also quite easy to move the crib from room to room because this is also a portable crib that comes on wheels. The wheels make it extremely easy to push the crib into the living room if you want to put your baby to sleep while you are relaxing, or you can push the crib into your own room if you want to keep your child near while they fall asleep and then after they fall asleep you can put them back into the nursery where they can stay asleep in their own space.

The crib is made entirely of wood and is held together by ordinary screws and bolts. Th crib mattress lays on a three-piece board system that has holes in it to promote proper air circulation through the mattress and through the crib. The crib can also be adjusted so that you can lower the mattress to make the bars higher and you can eventually open up one side of the crib so that your child can use the crib as a play area where they can walk into and out of the crib at their leisure. One of the concerns that some parents have about the crib is that children’s legs and arms have been caught in between the bars of the crib. There is enough space between each bar to create this hazard. Parents have not reported any serious injuries or harmful occurrences to their children, but it is something that should be noted when you purchase the crib.
Assembly Required

Assembly Required

The Stokke Sleepi Crib does require assembly. When you purchase the crib, it will come in several parts that are all wrapped in plastic, make sure to keep the plastic away from any small children. When you open the parts, the sides of the crib come already assembled, all you have to do is attach them to each other, and the three pieces that make up the bottom of the crib are also included. There will be a bag with all the bolts and screws, and the wheels that will be attached to the bottom of the crib.

Altogether, the crib will weigh about fifty pounds and you will have to flip the crib upside down to attach the wheels then flip the crib right side up when you are finished. You will need normal house tools to tighten and attach the screws and bolts. The entire assembly should not take more than thirty minutes and it appears to be a one-person job but always easier with two people.

One of the concerns that some parents have had is that the bolts do come loose over time. One parent reported that when they contacted the manufacturer about the loosening of the bolts, it was recommended to keep an eye out for the loose bolts so that they don’t fall into the crib and to tighten everything over time. Another parental concern was that the bottom of the crib where the mattress lays is kept up by “L” brackets and that if one of them comes loose, the mattress may collapse into the crib, especially if your child is heavy and stands up in the crib and jumps. There have not been any reports of this happening, but it is always wise for parents to keep in mind any safety hazards when they are purchasing furniture for their children.
Mattress Not Included

Mattress Not Included

It should be noted by parents who want to buy the Stokke Sleepi Crib, that the mattress is not included with your purchase. When you purchase the crib you only get the crib. That means you get the sides, bottom, and wheels. When you purchase the crib, you will also have to purchase the crib mattress at an additional cost. Because this bed is unique in design, there is only one type of mattress you can buy and only Stokke makes that mattress.

The crib is in an oval shape, so only the oval mattress can be purchased for this crib. That leads to another cost for Mom and Dad and that is that you will also have to purchase specific sheets for the crib. Just like the mattress, you can only buy the sheets from Stokke because the mattress is oval and only Stokke makes the oval-shaped sheets that can fit the mattress. The mattress is made of foam. There are no springs or anything else in the mattress that provides any additional comfort for your baby.

The mattress will be covered by a somewhat plush mattress cover that zips around the mattress so it can be taken on and off as you wish. The cover has a mesh bottom so that there is breathability in the mattress and air can flow through the holes in the crib bottom through the mattress to give your baby the best airflow possible. As always, it is always recommended to keep your child in a completely clutter-free crib while they sleep in order to prevent the lack of oxygen from flowing into and out of the crib.
Converting the Crib

Converting the Crib

The Stokke Sleepi Crib can last your child up to ten years. The crib bottom has the ability to be lowered so that as your child grows older, they can remain in the crib no matter how tall they grow. Also, the side of the crib opens like a door so that your child can easily get into and out of the crib on their own. When this happens, you can convert the crib into a toddler bed. Many parents feel that their child will continue to feel safe by sleeping in the same bed over time, and the bed can also become a play area for their child. For an additional cost, you can purchase a new set of tools and sides for the crib and turn it into a junior bed that is good for a child up to ten-years-old. The crib on its own without the additional set to convert into a junior bed is recommended for children up to three-years-old.
Cleaning the Crib

Cleaning the Crib

Cleaning the Stokke Sleepi Crib is quite easy and only requires the use of a damp cloth. All you must do is wipe down the crib wherever you see fit and if there is water left behind or deep wet spots from the cloth, all you need to do is soak up those areas with a bone dry rag. It is also recommended by the manufacturer to never use a rough or microfiber cloth on the crib because the roughness of those types of cloths will scratch the wood or break up the wood causing there to be damage to the wood and the finish of the crib.

If you want to clean the mattress cover, all you must do is unzip the mattress cover from the mattress and place it into your washing machine with any other baby bedding you are washing. It is recommended to never dry the mattress cover in the dryer as it may shrink the cover and then it won’t fit on the mattress anymore. When the mattress cover is done being washed, you can line dry the cover so that it remains intact and in good condition.
Safety

Safety

Overall, the Stokke Sleepi Crib is a safe piece of furniture for your child. The safety concerns that most parents have expressed while owning the crib are no different than any normal safety concern any parent would have. The crib is in no way a danger to your child. Parents should always be on the lookout for the normal safety concerns in that making sure bolts don’t come loose and fall in the crib that your child may try to put in their mouths, making sure the bottom is always secure so that your child doesn’t stand up and fall through the bottom, making sure the crib is always free of clutter, and that the mattress is always breathing so that there is no moisture or mold that may form from babies wetting the bed or getting sick. The Stokke Sleepi Crib appears to be just like any other crib and the usual safety concerns and checks should be made at all times.
Price

Price

The Stokke Sleepi Crib is quite expensive. What makes the price tag even higher is that there is so much that does not come with the crib that you will need to purchase separately and those additional items also come with a high price tag. Aside from the purchase of the crib, you will need to buy the mattress and sheets separately, and it should be remembered that the oval design of the crib makes it so that only specific sheets and items can be purchased, which can only be purchased from the manufacturer.

It should be kept in mind that you will have to buy everything at once, so if this is a crib that you want to have for your child then you must have it in your budget to afford everything. Many parents have been happy with their purchase as they feel their money was spent well because of the high quality of the furniture, while other parents felt the price was too high for a piece of furniture that their child is unaware even exists. Your needs should be fully considered before making the purchase of this crib.

Conclusion

The Stokke Sleepi Crib is a high-quality crib that is very unique. The quality and uniqueness come with a high price tag and the essentials are not included. Many parents have not been bothered by the price tag, but for those that are looking for an affordable crib, this may not be for you. For parents who want to pay for high-quality and state-of-the-art design, this is the crib for you. With the ability to transport the crib to any room of the house and the fact that it can be converted to a toddler bed and used for many years for many children, this crib should be considered by the parent who has specific needs that can be met by this specific crib.
