How it works

The makers at Baby Einstein have created a toy that in the tradition of Baby Einstein toys helps babies develop in more than one way. The makers have created the Octoplush. Octoplush is a plush stuffed animal octopus that helps children learn colors, languages, and music while cuddling with a soft and fluffy stuffed octopus. By pressing the toy in the correct spots, the voice will teach your child eight colors via three languages and pictures. Music can also play from the toy when squeezed. When not in play, the toy is a great stuffed animal for your toddler to cuddle with at bedtime or carry around with them during the day. With a low price for the multitude of learning your child will be exposed to, the Baby Einstein Octoplush color learning toy is a must-have for all children who are ready to learn while they play.

Design

Design

The Baby Einstein Octoplush is a stuffed animal octopus with a cartoon-like smiley face and eight tentacles. The octopus is a light blue color and is adorned with a sailor’s hat and bright yellow neckerchief causing the octopus to look like a sailor. Each one of the octopus’ tentacles has a picture and color on it, and when the tentacles are squeezed, the voice activation within the toy will sound out the name of that color.

On the back of the head of the octopus is a switch that parents can access to change the language of the octopus. The three languages offered on this toy are English, Spanish, and French.

The entire toy is plush and soft, which makes it a great stuffed animal for babies and toddlers to play with and for toddlers to sleep with. Small children will not realize that they are learning while they are playing with this toy, which is one of the markers of Baby Einstein toys.
Safety

Safety

Many toddlers like to bring their stuffed animals to bed with them when they go to sleep. The comfort of having a friend in bed when the lights go out allows children to feel safe in the dark. It is not recommended to put the Baby Einstein Octoplush in a crib with a baby. Many medical professionals have stated that when a child goes to sleep in a crib, their crib must be free of stuffed animals, blankets, or any other item that may cause the child to have difficulty breathing. Many doctors and pediatricians state that a clear crib reduces the risk of your baby dying of SIDS. SIDS stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and many medical professionals feel that SIDS is the result of poor air ventilation through a crib. If the Baby Einstein Octoplush is purchased for your baby, it is best to play with the octoplush with your baby, and when bedtime comes to leave the stuffed animal out of the crib and among the other toys and stuffed animals your child owns.
The Colors

The Colors

There are eight colors that the Baby Einstein Octoplush teaches your child. Each of the tentacles represents a different color for your child to become acquainted with. The eight colors of the octoplush are: yellow, orange, red, green, blue, purple, brown, and white. Each of the colors is represented by a small photo that not only associates the color to the word, but it also associates the color to items that are found in everyday life. For the color yellow the picture association is a star, for the color orange the picture is a flower, the color red is associated with cherries, the color blue is associated with a cloud, green is a leaf, brown is a teddy bear, and the color white is depicted as a snowflake. By having these color associations mixed with the word being sounded out for your children they will be able to not only know how to say a color when they recognize it, but they will also be able to see an object and know what color it is based on the picture. This way, your child is getting a double association and they will be able to learn colors faster and with greater ease.
The Languages

The Languages

One of the best parts of the Baby Einstein Octoplush is that parents can teach their children the names of colors in three languages. The default language for the toy is English, however, with a small switch that is located on the back of the head of the octopus you can switch the language to either Spanish or French. For homes that are bilingual with either of these languages, it will be a welcomed learning experience for your child to be exposed to both languages spoken at home. For those homes that are a single language home, this is a great way for parents to expose their child to another language is the easiest way possible. Once your child can understand all the colors and languages they can begin to sound out the colors they see in the world in three different languages giving them an advantage when they go to school in being able to use their brain on a variety of levels that will help them to learn faster and think more critically. This advantage can only help your child develop and learn faster.
Tactile Development

Tactile Development

Because the Baby Einstein Octoplush is such a soft and squeezable toy, many children will be able to develop their tactile skills more effectively. The first way this is done is by giving your child a toy that is soft that they can run their hands over and begin to feel the difference in textures around the house. The softness is a welcomed feeling to your child and they will be able to differentiate between rougher materials like furniture and hard toys and softer and more cuddly toys like the octoplush. Because the octoplush has eight tentacles, your child can pull on the tentacles and mush them in their hands as they begin to grab and grip. Your child will be able to work those hand muscles that are necessary for holding their bottles and sippy cups as well as manipulating other toys while they play. Eventually, your child will be able to squeeze the tentacles to hear the colors spoken and squeeze the face of the octoplush to hear music played from the toy.
The Music

The Music

When the face of the octoplush is squeezed music will play from the toy. The best way for your child to activate this feature is to squeeze the toy in their arms and the music will play. This type of learning experience is one that allows your child to see that affection has a positive response. By hugging their toy, it will get happy and start playing music. This will form a bond between your child and the stuffed animal, which will make your child feel safer with the toy and will allow your child to have an outlet to be affectionate. This type of experience will help your child emotionally and help them develop in a more well-rounded way. The music has been developed to be soothing to your baby and easy for them to listen to, so they may give the Baby Einstein Octoplush a lot of squeezes to hear all the music.
Repetitive Learning

Repetitive Learning

The main method by which the Baby Einstein Octoplush teaches is through repetitive learning. Because the toy only has one or two simple functions, every time your child plays with the toy, they will be hearing the same sounds, the same voice, and seeing the same pictures every time. By being constantly exposed to the same information over and over again, they will begin to retain that information faster and be able to apply it to their other toys and games. The act of repeating the same lesson over and over will enable your child to hear and understand the different languages and become comfortable with the sounds in such a way that they will then be able to repeat those sounds with confidence when they begin to talk and communicate vocally. In the beginning, parents can sound out the colors for their child and point to objects around the room that resemble that color. The child will be able to then point at the object and put together the color with the word their parent is saying. Eventually, your child will be able to sound out the color on their own, and they will be able to sound it out in three different languages. The more the lesson is exposed to your child, the quicker they will learn and the more likely the lesson will stick.
Batteries Included

Batteries Included

The Baby Einstein Octoplush operates on 2 AA batteries, which are included with the toy. It is always a good idea to have extra batteries on hand in the event that the toy is purchased with batteries that are not fully charged or have lost their charge. It is rare that the toy will come with low charged batteries, but it is always better to be prepared so that you can use the toy as soon as you receive it.
Cleaning the Toy

Cleaning the Toy

The Baby Einstein Octoplush must be spot cleaned in the event of any spillage that may occur on the toy. Because the toy contains hardware inside that operates the toy, the toy cannot get fully wet. It is best to use a warm, wet paper towel with some soap to clear up any stains or marks that may appear on the toy from it being squeezed and used. Tougher stains may come out with dish soap or laundry detergent as you spot clean. The Baby Einstein Octoplush is not a bathtime toy.
Price

Price

The Baby Einstein Octoplush is priced extremely low. It is recommended to buy this toy at this price because you get so much from this toy for almost next to nothing. Your child will be able to learn three different languages, work their tactile and gripping skills, identify colors and pictures, and repeat sounds on their own all from one toy that doubles as a stuffed animal all for an extremely low price. This toy is a good buy for any parent that wants to give their child the tools necessary to learn early and learn while they play.

Conclusion

The Baby Einstein Octoplush toy is chock filled with so many benefits that will help your baby develop into a smart toddler. Not only does the toy provided your child with the ability to learn eight different colors, but your child can learn those eight colors in three different languages. Each color also has its own picture associated with it that will help your child associate colors they learn with the toy in the real world. That type of association will help your child critically think and help them learn easier. By squeezing the toy, music will begin to play and that will teach your child the phenomenon of cause and effect. They will begin to realize that when buttons are pushed and toys are squeezed there is music or sounds that can then be heard and learned, which will then be applied to your child’s other toys and they will use the tactile skills, and gripping skills to pick up and play with these toys that they will learn to use and work on their own continuing to expand their learning capabilities. The Baby Einstein Octoplush color learning toy is a great buy for the parent who wants to provide their child with the tools necessary to learn as easily and fast as possible with the toy only costing a very low price. This is a must-have toy for any child’s toy collection.
