How it works

The Star Wars Propel X Wing drone is a drone unlike any other. With a detailed, hand-painted design plus modern drone technology, this drone is a real to life Star Wars prop. Powered by batteries and controlled through remote control or app on your smartphone, the X Wing Quadcopter can reach speeds of up to 35 MPH, and it has a barometric sensor the prevents the drone from going too high or flying too low.

Up to twelve separate Star Wars drones can be flown simultaneously and used to “battle” other drones in the set for group play and group fun. Although it is priced on the higher side, the Star Wars X Wing Quadcopter is a great toy for the Star Wars enthusiast and the Star Wars toy collector

The Packaging

The Packaging

The Star Wars X Wing Quadcopter is a collector’s item and full movie experience right from the packaging. Each drone comes in its own gray metallic box that is sealed with a wax seal to ensure the product is brand new and has not been used. Along the side of the box is a 3D imprint of the X Wing fighter so that you can see what the product looks like. The box stands more vertical than horizontal.

When you open the box is when the real movie magic begins to happen. When the box is opened, the X Wing fighter will be encased in a see-through plastic box and once the top is completely removed, the area on which the X Wing rests will light up and music from the Star Wars score will begin to play. In one moment, your drone will be presented with a soundtrack. In some boxes, scenes from the movie will be played and you can hear dialogue from the movie along with music and the lit background of the box.

When you are ready to use the drone all you have to do is remove the plastic cover and take the drone off of the backlit stand. The remote control is located at the bottom of the box underneath the stand that the drone is presented on.
The Remote Control

The Remote Control

The X Wing Quadcopter is operated through the remote control that comes with the drone. Since the X Wing is a Rebel spaceship, the remote control will have the Rebel symbol on it. There are several buttons on the remote control that change the music track and allow you to turn the music and sound on and off. There are also two controllers on the remote that allow you to operate the drone and steer it from the remote control.

You can fly the drone with no sound or you can leave the sound on, which will be sounds that replicate shooting lasers, zooming, droids talking, and the ship taking off and landing. There is also a mode that allows you to play parts of the score of the Star Wars soundtrack and as you are blasting around through the open air, you can hear the music of the movie-making your time in flight just as if you were in Return of the Jedi, The Empire Strikes Back, A New Hope, or any other Star Wars Classics.

Along the side of the remote control is a storage slot where you will find the screwdriver to open the battery door to add or replace the batteries. There is no need to buy or look for a small screwdriver to place the batteries into the remote control because it has been provided for you, and to keep with the Star Wars theme, the screwdriver is designed to look like a lightsaber.
The X Wing Drone

The X Wing Drone

The drone itself is handcrafted and hand-painted right down to the very detail. The drone is an exact replica of the X Wing fighter found in all Star Wars movies. The drone is hand-painted with all the marks, colorings, and designs of the actual X Wing that was created in Hollywood. Because the craftsmanship is top-notch for this toy, the X Wing is a great toy to have and operate in an open space because it brings your experience to life as no other toy or drone can.

The bottom of the drone has four propellers that help keep the drone in flight. The propellers spin so fast that they virtually disappear so when the drone is zipping around you won’t be able to see how it is in flight and the drone will appear as if it is a real fighter like in the movie.

The X Wing Fighter also has lights all around it that light up just like in the movie and the lights will continue to blink and operate as the drone flies around. The realism behind the drone is amazing and creates a life-like experience.
Barometric Sensors

Barometric Sensors

The Star Wars X Wing Fighter drone is equipped with barometric sensors that help keep the drone safe while it is flying. The sensors prevent the drone from flying too high or flying too low. If your drone starts to go too high, the sensors will kick in and you will not be able to fly the drone any higher. If you start going too low and too close to the ground, the drone will steady itself and will not allow you to control it any lower than it already is.

These sensors are installed in order to protect your drone and the craftsmanship behind it so that you can keep the drone in the best condition you can possibly keep it. This is also a safety feature as you will not be able to crash into anything too out of the way while you are flying allowing for you to keep a safe height while operating the drone.
Batteries Not Included

Batteries Not Included

The Star Wars X Wing Fighter drone operates on several batteries. The remote control operates on four AA batteries and the drone itself operates on 1.5v alkaline battery. These batteries need to be purchased separately as they do not come with your purchase. When buying the X Wing fighter drone, it may be a good idea to purchase the batteries at the same time so that you can have everything you need to start operating the drone immediately as soon as you open it.

To open the battery door on the remote control all you need to do is pull the already included screwdriver out of the storage area along the side of the remote and unscrew the battery door, which is located on the bottom of the remote control. When you unscrew the door, simply add the batteries into the designated slots and screw the door shut and then you are all good to go. The remote control will turn on and you can start operating your drone immediately.
Air Battles

Air Battles

One of the most popular perks of the Star Wars X Fighter drone is that you can use your drone to battle other Star Wars drones that are available on the market. The other drones that are available are an empirical Tie Fighter and a land cruiser that comes with a stormtrooper sitting on the cruiser.

You will notice on the remote control that there are three light-up lines in the middle of the top. Those lines represent your three “lives” for when you are battling other drones. As the drones are flying around each other, you can use your remote control to shoot at the other drones and the other drones will shake and flip in the air indicating that they have been “hit”. The remote control will also vibrate indicating that you have been attacked.

When that happens, one of your light up lines will go dark indicating that you have lost a “life” in the battle. When all three of your lights have gone out, you are out of the game, or you can start all over again. You can keep flying each drone around each other battling and shooting at each other in competition. There are several Star Wars drone competitions found all over the country as Star Wars enthusiasts meet to battle each other in competition.

The drones have been designed so that you can fly and battle up to twelve drones at the same time, so an entire group of kids or adults can gather and battle with each other in a game.
Guard Cage

Guard Cage

The Star Wars X Wing Fighter drone also comes with a guard cage that helps protect the propellers while you are learning to fly the drone. The cage clips onto the bottom of the drone and forms a protective cage around the propellers so that as you learn to manipulate the drone the propellers won’t get caught or clipped as you fly pass objects or trees or anything else that may be in the way. This is a great way to keep your drone in top shape and good condition as you learn how to operate it.
The App

The App

There is an app you can download onto your smartphone for operating the Star Wars X Wing Fighter drone. After you have downloaded the app, you can pull a dock out of the top of the remote control, which offers a place to dock your phone so that you can open the app and use further control options and keeping score while you are battling other drones. You can also clip a camera onto the bottom of your drone so that you can use it to take videos while you are flying.
Price

Price

The Star Wars X Wing Fighter drone may be out of the budget for some parents, however, it is really not that expensive. Usually, a toy of this kind that is a drone and can fly and battle and flip and play music and is handcrafted would run a lot of money, but the makers at Propel have priced this drone in the midrange making it affordable for a lot of people.

Considering that the drone can also be considered a collector’s item and is packaged with music and a display in the box, the price that it sells for is kind of a steal considering all the pomp and circumstance. If you can fit the price of the drone into your budget, this is a toy that is a must-have as it will expand your child’s imagination and allow them the opportunity to play in a group of kids. What’s more, is that it also can be enjoyed by adults so the entire family can get in on the action for one low price.

Conclusion

The Star Wars Propel Quadcopter X Wing Fighter drone is one of the more sought after drones on the market. Not only does it do what a typical drone will do, it is tailor-made to bring the Star Wars franchise to life. It comes in a collector grade packaging and displays with music plus a remote control that has several features to enhance the experience including a screwdriver so that you can always have the ability to change the batteries.

You can hear the Star Wars score and clips from the movie while you are flying the drone, and with special safety features, you don’t ever have to worry about the drone crashing or taking off or landing with any hassles. Because the propellers are fragile, the toy comes with extra for your convenience. In battle mode, you can play with other drones and do tricks and play games and this drone are compatible with the other Star Wars drones that are on the market.

With so many features and the opportunity to really expand your mind and creativity, the Star Wars Propel Quadcopter X Wing Fighter drone is a must-have for your collection as it will provide you with creativity and action for many years to come.
