How it works

Sequence For Kids is a great game to help your child learn to read and learn how to play fairly with others. The game is a picture matching game that allows your child the freedom to explore the sounds of letters and words while using their skills at recognition to match the pictures. The game is super easy to play and although it is meant for younger children who are still learning or just entering school, the game can be enjoyed by adults as well creating quality time between parents and kids. With so many perks to playing such an easy and fun game, the Sequence For Kids Board Game is a toy that must be considered by all parents who are looking for a fun way to spend time with their children.

How To Play

How To Play

Playing the Sequence For Kids board game is super easy. The game comes with the game board that folds in half for storage. When fully open, the board contains 42 squares that each contain a picture of an animal plus four free spaces. There are 19 different animals on the board. Half the squares face one player and half the squares face the other player. With the game, you also get four bags of playing chips. Each bag contains a different colored chip. When you choose the number of players that are going to be playing (the game is for two to four players), each player chooses their respective color. The game also comes with a deck of 42 cards. Once the cards are shuffled, the game is ready to be played.

To start play, each person is dealt three cards. Place the cards face up in front of you, and when it is your turn to play, you pick which card you want to play, find that animal on the game board and place one of your chips on the board. Only one color may occupy a space at a time. The first person to play their cards so that their chips are four in a row either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins the game. Each time you play a card and discard it, you must pick another card. All players much have three cards in front of them at all times.

There are two random cards in the deck. There is a unicorn card that allows you to place any one of your chips anywhere on the board, and there is also a dragon card that allows you to remove another player’s chip from anywhere on the board.
The Animals

The Animals

The nineteen animals on the game board with their corresponding cards are moose, alligator, giraffe, hippopotamus, wolf, camel, gorilla, zebra, kangaroo, shark, fox, turtle, panda, tiger, ostrich, whale, elephant, lion, and penguin. When you see the cards of the animals, each animal has its own name and the letter of their first name matches the letter of what animal they are, so there are cards that read Trevor the Tiger and Sherman the Shark. Each animal has its own unique name.
Free Space

Free Space

On the game board, there are four corner spaces labeled “Free Space”. On these spaces, you can place one of your chips at any time in the game. You do not need to draw a card, all you have to do is wait until it is your turn and then you can use the free space. The free space is best used when you need to complete a sequence of four chips and utilizing the space will allow you to win the game. It may suit your needs best to try and arrange your chips near the corner as often as possible.
Family Play

Family Play

One of the main benefits of playing Sequence For Kids is that it promotes children playing together and adults interacting with children. The game is set up for as many as four players, which means the entire family can sit and play the game together. When the family is playing together, the bonding between parent and child becomes stronger because parents can then talk to their kids and know the important details of their lives. It’s during these interactions that parents can give advice and become a source of comfort and wisdom for their kids.

There is also a certain level of trust that is established between adults and children that will serve the relationship better as children grow older and they will respect and be more honest with their parents. Also, playing together as a family is also a great way for parents to teach children about playing fair and playing well with others. Family play is a great way for parents to get an idea of how their child or children interact when they are being social and whether or not they need to be educated on proper social cues, on how to interact with others in a pleasant manner, and how to be an example for others when it comes to playing fair and following the rules and being a gracious winner or a gracious loser.
Social Play

Social Play

Aside from the skills acquired by engaging in family play, when a group of children plays together, more lessons are learned. Sequence For Kids allows a small group of children to play together and this can help your child out socially. By interacting with other children, your child will learn how to communicate well with other kids and play with them in a fun and interesting way. Many young children and adults for that matter tend to be shy and hold back a bit in social settings especially if they do not know anyone. When you get a group of kids to play a game together, some of that shyness will go away and kids will be more inclined to speak up and speak to other kids and create friendships.

Having friends and being social is an important tool is a development especially when children are in school as many of their school experiences revolve around being social and working and playing with other kids. By having a game for everyone to play helps in that journey and Sequence For Kids is one of those early childhood games that is simple to play and fun to play and will bring kids together in a fun environment.
Reading Comprehension

Reading Comprehension

Another benefit of playing Sequence For Kids is that it helps kids learn how to read. It will say right on the box that there are no reading skills required because the game is based on the pictures, but there is writing on the cards and the writing is designed to help your child learn to read and understand letters. Each animal has a name that starts with the same first letter as what kind of animal they are, and by doing this, kids will begin to recognize letter sounds.

When the tiger’s name begins with a “T”, and when the zebra’s name begins with a “Z”, your child can begin to sound out the letters and the words with you teaching them, and they will start to associate sounds with letters. When that happens, your child will then be able to recognize a letter anywhere and know what sound it makes helping them develop better reading skills. Kids will then be able to start the journey of reading on their own. Also, the cards and the board will help children recognize their favorite animals and learn about new ones.
Ulysses the Unicorn

Ulysses the Unicorn

There are two different types of cards that can be used during play that affect the chips. These cards are not found on the board and are only played when the person holding them wants to make a drastic move in the game. The first card is Ulysses the Unicorn. When you draw Ulysses from your deck of cards, you can place any one of your chips anywhere on the board. This will help if you need to create a sequence or if you are very close to completing your sequence. When he is drawn you can use the unicorn right away or you can wait until it’s a more strategic time for you to place that chip where you need it to be.
Dorothy the Dragon

Dorothy the Dragon

The other special playing card is Dorothy the Dragon. Dorothy is a card that you can play against someone else in the game. When you draw Dorothy and want to use her to your advantage, pick a player’s chip to be removed from the board. When you do that, you can prevent them from completing a sequence and your chances of winning are greater. But be careful because there is more than one Dorothy the Dragon card in the deck and someone may use that card against you when it’s their turn.
Age Range

Age Range

The age range for Sequence For Kids is recommended for children ages two-years-old to six-years-old. In reality, the age range doesn’t really end because this is a fun game for parents to play with their kids. All members of the family enjoy drawing cards and putting their chips on the board. It is not recommended for children under two-years-old as younger kids will not have the attention span to remain with the game and play it to the end.

Younger children also have not developed the dexterity in their hands to play with the cards and grab and place the chips. It isn’t until your child has developed enough that they can sit with the game, learn the letters, and learn the rules to be able to enjoy the game and get the full benefits that the game offers. Children under the age of two-years-old have not quite developed the social skills necessary to understand how to play a game with others.
Price

Price

Sequence For Kids is priced very low. It is a simple board game that can be found in the game aisle of any large retailer or department store. The low price is right on target as the game is pretty simple to play and the rules are minimal. The game does not come with a large number of pieces and does not require a lot to play. What makes the price even better is that the game offers your child a lot in the way of learning how to read and learning how to play with others whether it’s in a family setting or friends setting. Your child will learn many important skills from reading to motor skills to language and interacting well with others. The price allows the game to fit into any parent’s budget and the long term benefits are exponential.

Conclusion

Sequence for Kids is a great game to have in your board game collection. It is a game that can be played by any member of the family. Toddlers can play with grandparents and teenagers can play with younger siblings. The rules are easy to follow and playing is simple. While playing with younger children, you can teach them how to read, about animals, and how to socially interact on a level that is acceptable and fun. Families playing together can bond with each other as conversations and lessons can be taught and learned across the game board. With such a low price for a game with so many wonderful benefits, Sequence For Kids is a great buy for any parent who wants to find something fun and simple to do with their children that will get them away from digital media and get them interacting on an interpersonal level. Sequence For Kids is a must have for the family that wants to play and grow together.
