How it works
The makers at BabyBjorn created a bouncer that works on the weight and movement of your child. The bouncer is designed to grow with your child into their toddler years. The bouncer is constructed on the most simple level, however, it does have several benefits that your child will grow from as they continue to use the bouncer. While your child is using the bouncer, it is also a great time for you as the parent to get things done while your child is entertaining themself, so it becomes a tool in your child getting to know themself and their abilities. With no assembly required and no batteries to make the bouncer move or work, the BabyBjorn Bouncer Balance is a product worth considering as it will give you many years of use.
Design
For infants up to eighteen months old, there is a harness on the bouncer that keeps your child from slipping out of the bouncer and on to the floor. The harness is simple to use and does not have a lot of buckles or straps so you can get your child into and out of the harness with ease.
The bouncer also comes with three different reclining positions for your child depending on their age and weight. The bouncer can be reclined for younger babies and then eventually moved up and forward for older babies and toddlers.
When your child reaches the age of eighteen months, the bouncer can become a toddler seat where they can sit and play or read without the harness and with the ability to get themself in and out of the chair on their own.
Safety
The bouncer also comes with different kinds of fabric, one of the fabrics being mesh. If you choose to get the mesh cover it will give your baby more breathability when they are in the bouncer, however, the solid material works just as well and is just as safe for your baby.
Cleaning the Bouncer
If you do not want to take the cover off, the fabric can be spot cleaned for smaller spills or leaks. Take a warm paper towel with soap or a household cleaning wipe and gently wipe down the fabric until the spill is gone.
Reclining the Bouncer
The next level is fully reclined for when your child is an infant and they still can’t hold up their own heads yet. This position prevents your child from falling forward or having zero support for their neck and head. What little movement your child may have at this point will help to gently rock the bouncer.
The middle level of the reclining feature is when your baby is more mobile and can move and roll on their own as well as keep their own heads upright. In this position the bouncer is reclined enough that your baby can start to bounce and really get the bouncer going. Your child will understand at this point that they are the ones who make the bouncer bounce, and will, therefore, start developing their motor skills and movement skills.
The last stage of the bouncer is when the bouncer is moved up as far as it can go and the bouncer can then be changed into a toddler seat. In this position, your toddler can then get themself in and out of the chair with ease and still use their body weight to rock themself while they are sitting.
The Toddler Seat
To make the transition from bouncer to seat, first you have to flip over the fabric. When the bouncer is set up for infant to toddler there is the harness that keeps your baby in it so they don’t slip out. Toddlers do not need the harness, so the fabric is turned around to get the harness out of the way. On the bottom of the bouncer where it sits on the floor, the fabric is connected by two straps that are clipped onto the metal frame. All you have to do is unclip the straps and pull the cover off the bouncer from the top. Flip the fabric around so that the harness is now behind the frame, pull the fabric over the frame tight, and then you can resnap the straps back onto the bouncer frame and you are ready to go. With the adjustable reclining feature, make sure the red lever located behind the seat is pushed up to the full upright position so that the chair is not reclined back too far.
Your toddler will now have a place they can sit and rock while they read or play.
Motor Skills
Once your baby starts to fully understand their body and how their body works, that knowledge will translate over to when they are playing and moving and grabbing and they will further develop their motor skills into all areas of movement, play, and exercise.
