The Kit

The Kit

The Kiinde Twist Breast Milk Storage Kit comes with all the items you will need to start pumping and storing breast milk for your baby. The kit comes with two bottles for feeding your baby. The bottles come with the real-to-life designed nipples and nipple covers. You also get the storage unit that you can place in your freezer for storing breast milk. The kit also comes with about twenty bags for you to pump your breast milk directly into plus the breast pump attachment that is compatible with several brands of breast pumps.
How It Works

How It Works

The Kiinde system was designed to be as easy as possible. The steps that are needed to be taken in order to properly use the system are simple and completely streamlined. Once you do the steps once, you will be able to breeze through all of them in no time.

The first step is to find the attachment that goes with your breast pump. The Kiinde system comes with several adaptors for several different brands of breast pumps. The adaptors that are included in your kit are compatible with EvenFlo, Medela, Spectra, Hygeia, Philips Avent, Ameda, Lansinoh, Tommee Tippee, Playtex, and The First Years. All you have to do is find the adaptor for whatever brand of pump you have and attach the adaptor to your pump and then attach the pump to one of the storage bags. As you begin to pump your breast milk, your milk will go directly into the bag. It is recommended that you slightly separate the bag from itself in order to open the bag more so that you can get a correct reading of how much you are actually pumping.

After you are done pumping, you can put the cap back on the bag and store it in the freezer, or you can immediately attach it to the bottle and feed your baby. Your breast milk will never have to be transferred to the bottle as the storage back connects to the nipple and the bottle.
The Bottles

The Bottles

The bottles of the Kiinde Twist Breast Milk Storage Kit are simply holders for the storage bags. You will see on the top of the storage bag a place where the bag clips into the bag holder (aka the bottle). The bottle is just a means of being able to hold something so that you can feed your baby from the storage bag. Once you clip the storage bag into the holder, squeeze the bag from the bottom up in order to push out all of the air that may have collected in the bag. Attach the nipple and turn the bottle upside down in order to get out any remaining air and then you can feed your baby with just the milk and no excess air that may cause colic. By using storage bags, you can eliminate the air as opposed to using a normal glass or plastic bottle that does not allow for the removal of air from the breast milk.

When you are done and your baby is fully fed, all you have to do is detach the nipple then detach the bag and put the bag in your recycling bin. The only thing that needs to be cleaned is the nipple. Then you are all done.
The Nipples

The Nipples

The nipples of the Kiinde Twist Breast Milk Storage Kit are designed to be like real human nipples. The makers at Kiinde wanted to eliminate the possibility of there being nipple confusion for babies. When babies are fed from both a bottle and the breast, the nipples on the bottle confuse them on how to properly latch onto the nipple, so when babies feed they don’t know how to avoid lazy latch or not latching at all.

The Kiinde nipples are made to feel and look like real human nipples. The nipple itself is elongated much in the same way as a mother’s nipple will elongate when she is breastfeeding. The nipple is also attached to what resembles an areola so that baby will not know the difference. The opening to the nipples is also an oval shape, which helps give an even airflow that further eliminates excess air from getting into your baby and causing colic and excess gas. The nipples can be washed with the nipple brush that comes with your kit, and all items are PVC free.
The Storage Unit

The Storage Unit

The Kiinde Twist Breast Milk Storage Kit comes with a storage tray for your breast milk. The tray can be placed in your freezer and has several rows for you to put in your breast milk bags so that they are always accessible and evenly organized. The storage rack can hold up to twelve bags of breast milk, so there will always be enough breast milk for when you are feeding. Each bag has an area where you can write the date you pumped on it, so you can organize your bags by the date you pumped and always ensure that your baby is getting the freshest breast milk when they need it the most.
The Storage Bags

The Storage Bags

The Storage Bags of the Kiinde Twist Breast Milk Storage Kit, are designed to hold up to five ounces of breast milk. The bags are plastic storage bags that resemble sandwich bags in their material and thickness. When using the bags, all you have to do is separate the bottom from itself so that the bag can fully open. A lot of moms did not realize that this needed to happen and they began to fill their bags with breast milk only to get an inaccurate reading of how much they actually pumped. The bag would show four ounces of milk was pumped, however, when the bag was separated it showed that only two ounces of milk was actually pumped, so make sure that you always separate the bag first. The main concern by most moms is that the bag does not give accurate readings, so it’s common that you will not pump what the bag says you have pumped. For moms who use the bags for feeding with formula, these moms usually measure their formula in a separate, more reliable container and then they pour the contents into the storage bags where they can eliminate the air and then feed their baby. A lot of moms prefer to feed with formula at night as formula can help a baby sleep better.

The storage bags can all be capped with the tight twist caps and then stored for later use or used right away. Each bag has an area where you can write the date that you pumped so that your breast milk or formula is always fresh.
Cleaning the Kit

Cleaning the Kit

For the most part, the only things that need to be washed in the Kiinde Twist Breast Milk Storage Kit are the nipples and the nipple covers. Each nipple has its own cover and in case you are on the go and don’t use the entire bottle and cap it, the cap may get a bit dirty from leftover breast milk. The nipples and their covers are dishwasher safe and must be placed on the top rack of the dishwasher to avoid any damage or breakage. The bottles can also be placed in the dishwasher as well as they too may get dirty from spilled breast milk and overall handling several times a day.

The nipples and the bottles can also be washed by hand in case you don’t want to use or don’t own a dishwasher, and the kit comes with a brush to help you with all of your cleaning.
Designers

Designers

The designers of the Kiinde Twist Breast Milk Storage Kit are all members of the team at MIT. These engineers, who are also parents, created the system as a means of making pumping breast milk and feeding your baby as easy as possible. Storing breast milk with helps those moms who go back to work and leave their breast milk behind to be fed to their children while they are away. Because it was designed by an MIT team, it is easy to deduce that the Kiinde system is of the highest quality with all the design features carefully planned out and executed.
Price

Price

The Kiinde Twist Breast Milk Storage Kit is priced relatively low considering you get so much out of the kit. For the price that you pay, you get several items that will not only assist you in pumping but also in feeding. You only have to buy certain aspects of the kit once and they will last you through all of your children and their breastfeeding experiences. The only items that will have to be replaced over and over again are the storage bags and they can be bought through several online retailers for affordable prices. You will go through several bags as your baby will feed several times a day, but the kit itself is a one time buy and it is affordable enough to fit into the budget of any parent. It should be noted, however, that the bottle warmer is sold separately as is the breast pump, so your pump and your warmer must be purchased on their own, but they in themselves are also investments that are worth the purchase.
