How it works

Babies and toddlers grow fast. Many parents feel they blink and their child is off to school. With that, many parents have to constantly buy new things that fit their child. Safety 1st realized this and has developed a 3-in-1 convertible car seat that grows with your child from infancy to almost their teen years. The Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is a three-part car seat that begins as an infant rear facing car seat and carrier then graduates to a harness high backed booster seat and eventually a booster seat that uses an adult seat belt to keep your child secure. From newborn up to 100 pounds, this car seat will last almost 12 years as they grow from babies to preteens.

Design

Design

The Safety 1st Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is designed for infants up to preteens. The first stage of the car seat is the rear-facing car seat for infants up to toddlers 2-years-old. The car seat comes with extra infant padding at this stage that can hold any sized newborn. The extra paddings ensure a newborn’s comfort and safety. The harness works the same as it would with a toddler by keeping your baby tight in the seat.

The second stage of the Safety 1st Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is the forward-facing car seat with a harness. This is for toddlers up to 60 pounds. The infant padding can be removed and stored away. The harness is then given more room for a bigger child. In this stage, the apparatus is used as a regular car seat that allows your child to look forward. The third stage of the Safety 1st Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is the booster-style car seat where the harness is completely removed from the apparatus and your child is kept securely strapped into the booster with your vehicle’s standard seat belt. At this stage, your child is kept safe up to 100 pounds or a little over four feet tall when they can finally graduate to a regular adult seat belt with no booster or car seat.

The car seat also comes with an adjustment feature where you can pull on two tabs on the top of the car seat and raise the harness and headrest at the same time to ensure your child’s comfort and safety as they grow. The seat also has two cup holders to hold food, snacks, bottles, and toys, and the seat also has two harness holders that allow you to keep the harness open as your place your child into and take them out of the car seat.
Safety

Safety

The Safety 1st Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat has surpassed all US safety measures and tests for car seats and highway safety. It has surpassed Federal Safety Standards 35209089, by Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, 2018. When the seat is rear-facing, there is very little room between the car seat and the back of the front seat. Be advised that if you have multiple children and the rear-facing car seat needs to be placed behind the driver, there will be very little room for the driver to recline or push back their seat. The closeness keeps the seat secure while latched to the car.

When the seat is forward facing, there is more than enough room for your child’s legs and feet as the bulk of the seat will now be placed against the back of the back seat giving your child and whoever is sitting in the front seat more room to move and drive.

The seat is made entirely of durable materials the absorb shock and keep your child safe during possible collisions. The seat has been tested to be safe during side-impact collisions as well. One parent had a vehicular collision and their baby was in the Safety 1st Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat and the child slept through the accident. It appears as if all safety measures have been taken to ensure your child’s safety while they are using the car seat.
Height and Weight Requirements

Height and Weight Requirements

The Safety 1st Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat has height and weight requirements for all three stages of your child’s development. For stage one, your child must be between five and forty pounds and 19 inches to 40 inches tall. These measurements are standard and adhere to the requirement of the extra infant cushioning.

For stages two and three of the Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat the required height and weight requirements for your child are 40 to 100 pounds and 29 to 52 inches tall. These two stages can be split up by the weight requirements. For the second stage when your child is using the harness and the booster together, the weight requirement is 40 pounds to 65 pounds. Beyond 65 pounds, your child will need to graduate out of the harness and use the standard vehicle seat belt up to 100 pounds or 4’4” tall when they can then use a regular adult seat belt. Many parents like to monitor their child’s development and make the switches when they know their child is ready for the next stage of the car seat and how they will be kept the safest while traveling in the car.
Latch System

Latch System

Like most car seats on the market today, the Safety 1st Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is installed in your car via a latch system. The latch system is pretty standard for when the seat is forward facing. The clips on the back of the booster bottom are clipped into the harness latches that are found between the back and bottom cushions of your rear seat. Once clipped into the harness latches, you pull on the strap in the front of the booster and the seat is tightened and won’t move. Some parents have found some difficulty in doing this only because the car seat latches easier when you put all of your weight onto the car seat, and some parents have found they did have enough weight to keep the seat completely firm and it shifted from side to side; however, once they pulled on the strap to tighten the seat it was completely secure.

When the seat is rear facing, there is a strap that you can loop through the bottom of the seat and that will then latch onto the latching harness in your car and keep the rear facing phase of your car seat completely tight. There is also a rear facing red line on the side of your car seat that must be parallel to the floor of the vehicle for infants that cannot hold themselves up. In order to make the line parallel, you can use the reclining feature, which is located in the front of the car seat underneath the booster.
Headrest Adjustments

Headrest Adjustments

The headrest of the Safety 1st Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat has a headrest adjustment that also adjusts the harness at the same time. With this two-in-one feature, parents can adjust the car seat as their children grow. Many car seats have this feature split in two where parents have to adjust the headrest separate from the harness. The headrest has several points that it can be adjusted to so that your child is always comfortable from infancy to preteen. The sides of the headrest can also be adjusted so that your child can have extra comfort and support for their heads while they are sitting in the seat. The headrest is similar to the ones found on the seats of airplane seats and the sides can be bent in so your child’s head is not hanging off to the side while they are resting. It also adds extra support and comfort for your infant while they are laying down as they will not have the support in their necks necessary to hold up their own heads.
Maintenance

Maintenance

Cleaning the Safety 1st Grow and Go 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is one of the features of the car seat that parents love the most. Cleaning the car seat is extremely easy as it can easily be wiped down with any damp cloth or gentle cleaner. In case you do have to clean up a major spill that requires the seat to be heavily cleaned, the materials of the car seat are removable and can be placed in any washing machine or dryer so that you can get out big spills and prevent any staining from occurring in the fabric of the car seat. What’s more, is that the fabrics can be pulled off without having to remove the harness at all. This way, you can throw the fabric in the wash and after it has dried, you can place it right back on the car seat before your next trip. Some parents find that taking off the fabric is easy, but putting it back on can be kind of hard as you will not get the same kind of “feel” as you get when it has been placed on by the manufacturer, but the process of taking it off and putting it back on is not extremely difficult.
Stages Two and Three

Stages Two and Three

Stages two and three of the Grow and Go 3-in-1 will be the longest stages for your child. At about the age of two-years-old, your child will move from rear-facing to forward-facing. They will remain forward-facing until they outgrow the seat which can be up to ten years. For stage two, the seat continues to use the harness system. You can adjust the headrest to your child’s height with the headrest coming just below their shoulders so their entire head and neck are supported. Your child will also have full access to the cup holders so they can reach for their sippy cups and snacks.

For stage three, the harness is removed and your car’s seat belt will be utilized to keep your child secure in the car. At this final stage, the car seat will give your child all the security they need for the size of their bodies. They will be too small to be fully safe in a regular seat belt, so the car seat acts as added padding and cushioning for them as well as shock absorption for their bodies in case of an accident.
