How it works

Every new parent or parent with multiple children can’t be everywhere. No matter what that parent is doing or what they have in their hands, their minds are always with their child. For this reason, Snuza created the Hero Baby Movement Monitor. The movement monitor clips to your child’s diaper or pants and keeps track of your child’s breathing. The monitor is designed to remain silent while your child is breathing. In the event that your child’s stomach becomes unresponsive or the monitor cannot pick up your child’s breathing, an alarm will sound alerting the parent to check on their child. The monitor gives parents a bit of a sense of ease knowing that their child is being monitored while they are in another room tending to another child or another task or are asleep.

Design

Design

The Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor is designed to alert parents if there is no abdominal movement from their child. The monitor is small. It is only a couple of inches long and weighs about half an ounce. There is small button on the left of the monitor that turns the monitor on. When the monitor is turned on, there will be a blinking green light that will let parents know that the monitor is on and working. If you want, you can press the button on the right of the monitor to adjust the sound of the blinking light. Every time that light blinks there will be small beeping sound that comes from the monitor. This allows parents to be able to hear that the monitor is still on even if they are not in the room. The more you press the right side button, the louder the beeping sound will get until, eventually, you will be able to mute the sound all together so that it doesn’t make any sound at all. To turn off the monitor completely, press both the left and right button simultaneously and the monitor will switch off.
How to Use

How to Use

The Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor works by clipping it onto the waistband of your baby’s diaper or pants. It is recommended that the monitor be clipped on to the diaper because the diaper is the closest to your baby’s skin. When the monitor is clipped on to the waistband of your baby’s pants, there is a higher risk of the monitor coming away from your baby’s skin and going off in a false alarm. The closer to the skin, the better. The monitor is designed in a boomerang shape so that it will rest gently on your baby’s abdomen and begin to monitor their breathing without disturbing the baby while they are sleeping.
Vibration Alarm

Vibration Alarm

The Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor is extremely sensitive, which is a good thing. The minute that monitor does not detect any kind of movement it will begin to prepare to wake up your baby with the vibration alarm. After 15 seconds of no abdominal movement detected from you baby, the alarm will attempt to rouse your baby by vibrating and moving until your baby starts to breathe again or until the monitor comes in contact with your baby’s abdomen once again. The monitor will vibrate and wait five seconds before sounding off an alarm.
Audible Alarm

Audible Alarm

The Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor has two alarm modes. The first alarm is the vibration mode while the second one is an actual sound alarm that alerts the parent to go to their child and check on their breathing. After 15 seconds the monitor will vibrate, but after another five seconds, the monitor will vibrate and sound an alarm, then it will stop vibrating and simply ring an alarm. The alarm is a beeping sound that will constantly go off until the parent arrives and turns it off or reconnects it to their baby in the event of a false alarm or if the monitor came loose from the baby’s diaper.
Using the Monitor At Night

Using the Monitor At Night

A lot of parents like using the Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor while their baby is sleeping for the night. The monitor has several advantages to being used at night. Because the monitor has a blinking light parents can easily see in the dark that the monitor is working and the baby is breathing normally. The light is bright enough that it will shine through the fabric of a light baby blanket. It is recommended that the child’s shirt be lifted up or their onesie be opened so that the light can be seen in the dark by the parent. During nighttime feedings the monitor never has to be taken off. As long as it is connected and touching the skin of your baby the monitor is fine as it is so that you can put the baby back down without forgetting to turn the monitor back on and reconnecting it to your baby’s diaper. During diaper changes, you have to turn the monitor off so that the alarm doesn’t go off once it’s disconnected from your baby’s clothing. After the diaper change, turn the monitor back on and clip it back onto the baby’s diaper before putting the baby back down for a nap or back to sleep for the night.
Battery Included

Battery Included

The Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor runs on one metal lithium battery. The battery is included with the monitor. Buyers have found that after one year the battery still works and didn’t need to be changed.
Safety

Safety

It is to be noticed and understood that the Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor does not help your child breathe. The purpose of the monitor is to alert you to the fact that your child has stopped breathing while they are sleeping. It is in no way a sleep aid. It is simply a sleep monitor. Also, the monitor does not protect your child from anything. It does not keep your child breathing, it does not reduce your child’s risk of SIDS, or help them breathe better. The Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor simply does what its name suggests: it monitors your baby’s movements and breathing while they sleep. Because it does monitor movements, it is not recommended that your baby wear the monitor if they are sleeping in bed with you or other children. When your child is in a bed with their parents or other infants or children the monitor can easily be knocked off of the baby’s clothes and the alarm will go off. The monitor will also begin to detect other people’s motion instead of the baby’s.

If your baby is awake and not sleeping, it is recommended that you remove the monitor from their diaper. That way, once the monitor is removed, you can dress your baby normally and allow them to move around and play without damaging or losing the monitor, and the monitor does not serve any purpose if they are awake. It is also advised to not put the monitor on the baby if they are in a stroller because the monitor could get damaged or give false alarms and constantly ring and vibrate.
False Alarms

False Alarms

Because babies move so much when they are sleeping, many parents have found that the monitor consistently falls off of the child’s clothes and consistently gives false alarms. The downside to that happening is that parents become so used to the monitor falling off that they hear the alarm without any urgency and simply go to the crib and reaffix the monitor to the baby’s diaper. The upswing is that the parent gets up and goes to the crib and ensures that the alarm going off is just a false alarm. The alarm does have the ability to wake up your baby, so if you are having a tough time getting your child to sleep, a false alarm may cause the baby to awaken and stay awake. It may be in your best interest not to use the Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor if you have a child who is a light sleeper. If you do decide to use the monitor with a baby who is a light sleeper, ensure that the monitor is securely fastened to the diaper so that it won’t fall of and wake up your child.
Movement Detection

Movement Detection

The Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor is not a life saving device. As stated earlier, it detects movement in your child as they sleep. In the event that our child stops breathing but continues to move, the alarm will not go off. For example, if your child is choking, the device is not going to alarm if your baby is moving around while it tries to regain his or her breath. So, it is advised to remember that when your child is wearing the device that parents still need to be vigilant and check on their child from time to time or watch their child through a camera baby monitor while they sleep to ensure they are safe and sound if the parent is not in the same room.
SIDS

SIDS

There is some controversy about SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and the causes of it and how to prevent it. SIDS (in the most laymen terms possible) is when an infant stops breathing while they are sleeping. Doctors and experts agree that when your infant is in their crib they should be in there alone with no bumpers, stuffed animals, pillows, or blankets. The infant should be swaddled or covered with an outfit while they sleep to avoid suffocation or the lack of proper Co2 flow in the crib that can cause your baby to not breathe. Many purchasers of the Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor have found that when the alarm goes off and it has not been a false alarm they were able to save their baby’s life because they were alerted to the fact that the baby was not breathing. Snuza does NOT advertise or claim to prevent any type of casualty while your baby is sleeping. Snuza simply gives you a bit of peace of mind in knowing that if your baby does stop breathing or moving that within 20 seconds you can be alerted and you can take the proper steps to save your child’s life.
Price

Price

The Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor is not cheap. It is also not overpriced. For the amount of money you will pay to purchase this device and be able to sleep soundly knowing your baby is okay, the price is right on target. There are other more expensive devices on the market that come with cameras, but while you are sleeping being able to hear what is going on is more essential, and the monitor will last you a number of years, so over the entire time that you own the device the money comes out to be not that much considering the device will have a long life.

Conclusion

For any new parent or any parent who is dealing with the paranoia of having a baby and keeping them safe, the Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor will allow you to relax a bit. The monitor has a loud alarm that will alert you that your baby needs your attention, and it also has a vibration feature that will go off first in an attempt to rouse your baby in case they have stopped moving and breathing. The price is just right for this type of device, and it has been known to save the lives of children. Although it does not assist your baby in any way healthwise, it is like a second pair of eyes watching over your child. If you are looking for that extra bit of protection then you should purchase the Snuza Hero Baby Movement Monitor.
